'7 in 7': The Ultimate Golf Marathon
This June, Hampshire-based professional golfer Paddy Towson-Sheehy will take on an extraordinary challenge: playing seven rounds of golf each day for seven consecutive days, all in support of motor neuron disease (MND).
Dubbed his "Golf Marathon Challenge," Paddy will play 882 holes and walk approximately 177 miles, raising money for MND in memory of his uncle Alan, who sadly passed away from the disease in 2019.
MND is a devastating illness that affects the brain and nerves, gradually stripping away the ability to move, speak, and eventually breathe. There’s currently no cure, but every effort like this helps move the needle—raising critical funds to support ongoing research.
The challenge will take place across seven different golf courses in Yorkshire, further honoring his uncle Alan. The final course in the series will be Baildon Golf Club, where Alan was a proud member.
“It’s all for my Uncle Alan,” Paddy shared. “He was such a big part of our family and played the game with so much love. After losing him to MND, I knew I had to do something meaningful. I’ve always loved golf, so this challenge just felt right—one swing, one step at a time, for him.”
Paddy drew deep inspiration from the incredible bond between Rob Burrow CBE and Kevin Sinfield. Their journey—defined by Rob’s courage in the face of MND and Kevin’s unwavering support—left a lasting impression on him. As a Leeds Rhinos supporter, Paddy followed every mile of their iconic 7-in-7-in-7 marathons. Now, he’s stepping up with his own tribute.
Stewart Golf is proud to support Paddy throughout his challenge, providing him with a VERTX Remote (and a few spare batteries!) to help power through the 49 rounds.
Paddy’s not just swinging for birdies—he’s swinging for change, for memories, and for hope.

The 882-hole journey.
The challenge will begin at Headingley Golf Club in Leeds, a tribute to Rob Burrow CBE, who sadly lost his life to motor neuron disease (MND) in June 2024. Known as the spiritual home of the Leeds Rhinos, Headingley is where Rob built his legacy and inspired a generation. His battle with MND—faced with courage, humor, and unwavering dignity—has touched lives far beyond the rugby field.
Paddy shared, “I have very strong family ties to Yorkshire, especially around Leeds and Bradford, so this challenge is incredibly meaningful and deeply personal.”
From there, Paddy will travel across Yorkshire, playing courses at Sand Moor, Moor Allerton, Garforth, Rudding Park, and Roundhay. Each course has been thoughtfully chosen, either for family connections or symbolic significance. It’s a journey rooted in sorrow, gratitude, remembrance, and purpose.
The final stop will be Baildon Golf Club, where Paddy’s Uncle Alan played for many years and where the man who inspired this challenge is still fondly remembered. Ending the journey there will mean far more than crossing a finish line—it will be a homecoming. A tribute. A moment to reflect and celebrate a life well lived.
“This is very personal,” Paddy explained in an interview. “My Uncle Alan lived in Yorkshire and was a huge part of our lives. He was a golfer too—he played for years at Baildon Golf Club, where I’ll finish the challenge.”
Sarah Armstrong of the MND Association, which is supporting Paddy’s extraordinary effort, emphasized that every dollar raised will have a real impact on the MND community. “Without people like Paddy—their imagination, energy, and heart—none of our work would be possible,” she said.

What made Paddy reach out to Stewart?
When it came to preparing for his 882-hole marathon, Paddy knew one thing for sure: carrying his clubs for 49 rounds over seven days wasn’t going to do his back or shoulders any favors. After playing alongside several pros this year who had nothing but praise for Stewart Golf, it was the first name that came to mind.
“A caddie would be a huge help—especially one I can control remotely. The pros I’ve played with all speak so highly of Stewart, and I’d love to use one of their caddies to get me through this challenge.”
At Stewart Golf, we’re proud to support Paddy on this extraordinary journey in support of a truly meaningful cause. His new playing partner, the VERTX Remote, will help him navigate each round with ease—conserving energy and keeping him as fresh as possible from hole one to hole 882.
