Keeping your batteries safe

Dear Stewart Golf owner,

When temperatures move outside of a normal range, a few simple habits will keep your golf cart performing at its best and help your lithium batteries last as long as possible. Your golf cart uses two: one to power the golf cart itself and one inside the handset. The guidance below helps you get the most from both, whatever the weather.

Do not store or charge the batteries outside of the 59°F to 77°F range. If you are using them outside of these temperatures, please follow the guidance below.

As an example, on an 86°F day a handset left in direct sunlight can heat up to around 113°F or more, even though the air around it is well within the safe range. It is the surface heating in direct sun, not the air temperature, that matters, so keeping the handset shaded helps preserve its performance and lifespan.

• Safe to use anywhere from 14°F to 113°F, which covers virtually all playing conditions.
• On very hot days near the top of the range, park in shade between shots and keep the handset out of direct sunlight.
• In freezing conditions below 32°F, keep the handset insulated from the cold, for example in a pocket, when not in use (the silicone handset skin supplied with your product also helps provide some insulation).
• After a cold round, let the golf cart and batteries return to room temperature before charging.
• This range is for use only. Charging and storage should always be back within 59°F to 77°F.

In higher temperatures

• Never leave the batteries charging in direct sunlight or near a heat source.
• Charge in a well ventilated area and never cover a battery while it is in use or on charge.
• Do not store your equipment in a car during warm weather. A parked car acts like a greenhouse, with sunlight through the windscreen quickly heating the interior to well above the outside temperature. Prolonged heat is the main thing that shortens battery lifespan, so avoid leaving the batteries in a hot environment for extended periods.
• When in use, keep the handset out of direct sunlight.

In lower temperatures

• Do not store the batteries in a car during cold weather.
• Store the batteries in a dry environment within the 59°F to 77°F range, switched off.
• Bring the batteries indoors to room temperature before charging.

Charging best practice

• Only ever use the charger supplied by Stewart Golf.
• Charge the batteries within 48 hours of each use, and never leave them in a fully discharged state.
• For the handset, use only the supplied USB cable.

Long term storage (more than one month)

• Fully charge both batteries after your last round, then disconnect them from the charger.
• Store them switched off, in a dry place within the 59°F to 77°F range.
• Put both batteries through a full charge cycle once a month, and give them a full charge before your next round.

Some of this advice directly relates to the warranty: damage from incorrect charging, extreme temperature exposure, or using non-genuine equipment is not covered. Following the steps above keeps you protected on both counts.
