Since teeing off in January, Josh’s world record attempt has become more than just a numbers game, it’s turned into a test of endurance, mindset, and unwavering love for the game. Every day, rain or shine, he’s out on the fairways, chasing the quest for 581.
What began as a bold challenge has evolved into a journey filled with remarkable moments: unplanned encounters with sports icons, rare opportunities to play some of the most elite and remote courses in the UK, and personal milestones like breaking par on unfamiliar terrain. It’s a reminder that even the most ambitious goals are made up of small, daily victories.
We caught up with Josh for an exclusive, behind the scenes look at how he’s really holding up in the midst of this incredible journey, and he didn’t hold back. From the physical grind to the emotional highs and unexpected setbacks, Josh had a lot to share about what it truly takes to chase a world record, one round at a time.
Full interview below.

So Josh, how’s the challenge going so far?
“This year has easily been the hardest of my life so far,” he admits. “Doing something so repetitive really takes a toll on you. Playing golf every single day since January 24… you need the mindset of taking it one day at a time.” As of this writing, Josh has completed 259 rounds and is ahead of schedule, with a projected total of around 614 by year’s end.
Have there been any moments along the way that really hit differently, something you’ll never forget?
“Honestly, so many. Hitting my first milestone on Mother’s Day. Bumping into a snooker legend on day 147. Breaking par for the first time on a course I’d never seen before. It’s amazing, I just wish I had more time to appreciate it all as it’s happening,” Josh said.
“I’ve been lucky enough to check off quite a few of the UK’s most scenic and secluded spots. It’s been truly unreal.”
After completing 259 courses, are there any that stood out?
“Best golf course? I’d say either Sunningdale Old or Swinley Forest. Both are timeless classics and offer something really special.
The best overall experience would be Queenwood. Everything, from the atmosphere to the service, is on another level. It’s just a different world. My happy place has to be Parkstone. There’s something about the vibe there that always puts me at ease. As for hidden gems, the biggest surprise so far would be either Borth & Ynyslas or Longcliffe. Totally under the radar, but absolutely worth the trip.”
Now that you’ve been living the van life for a while, how’s that been? Any surprises or things you didn’t expect?
“Not easy,” he laughs. “You take a lot for granted living a ‘normal’ life, simple things like doing laundry, cooking a proper meal, even having access to a decent toilet. When you’re on the road every day, those basic comforts become luxuries.
At first, it was definitely a shock to the system, but over time I’ve adapted, and weirdly, I’ve come to enjoy it.”
“What started as a tough adjustment has gradually become part of the rhythm. You learn to live with less and make it work. I’ve got my routines now, and most nights, I’m so exhausted after the round that I sleep like a rock. It’s not glamorous, but it’s mine, and there’s a strange kind of freedom in that.”

Has the support from the golfing community helped and made a difference during your journey?
“Massively,” Josh says without hesitation. “People are always cheering me on, whether it’s encouraging words, someone offering to do laundry, help with food, or just giving me something to look forward to. It all matters.”
A challenge like this doesn’t happen in isolation. Along the way, Josh has had support from the golf community, helpful strangers, and a bit of reliable gear. What seem like small gestures have had a significant impact over the course of such a long and demanding journey. From kind messages on social media to unexpected offers of help from people he’s met on the road, the human connection has helped him keep going.
“It reminds you you’re not doing this completely alone,” he adds. “Some days can feel really tough, whether it’s the weather, the distance, or just the mental side of it, and it’s those little moments of support that really help you push through. It makes a bigger difference than people probably realize.”
How have you been finding the experience of using a Stewart Golf trolley?
“The carts been amazing. I’ve walked 70 percent of my rounds and Stewie’s been with me every step. It’s designed to make life easier, and with a challenge like this, that’s exactly what you need. So many people I meet on the course love it.”
Through it all, one thing has remained constant: his commitment to walking the course. With nearly 70 percent of his rounds completed on foot so far, this journey is about more than just chasing records. It’s about doing things the right way. And with Stewie by his side, his Stewart Golf trolley has played a quiet but crucial role in making each round possible.
